The Rock Award is named after UFC® fighter Nate “Rock” Quarry in tribute to his comeback from degenerative disc disease. The award symbolizes courage in the face of adversity and outstanding commitment to our program.

Just 34 years old when diagnosed, the pain and disability Nate experienced put him at risk for losing his career. Determined not to let his condition get the best of him, Nate had the XLIF® procedure and got back into the Octagon. His story shows that giving up is not an option for those who want to conquer chronic back or leg pain. Today, Nate is an outspoken advocate for The Better Way Back and serves as the Ultimate Ambassador to patients afflicted with chronic back or leg pain.

Every year, a recognition ceremony is held to honor those who best exemplify the mission of The Better Way Back. During the ceremony, special honorees are presented with the Rock Award. In addition, each honoree is awarded a financial grant to help others by funding The Cheetah Gives Back Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to sending surgeons to third world countries to provide surgery and medical treatment to those in need.
