On Sunday, May 3, 2015, The Better Way Back® spokesman Bill Walton was a featured speaker at the Opening Ceremonies for the 83rd American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) Annual Scientific Meeting in Washington, D.C. During his presentation, Walton spoke about how legendary UCLA coach John Wooden helped him create a foundation for life–mirroring the conference theme of “Neurosurgery’s Founding Principles.”

Katie O’Meara Orrico, director of the Washington Office of AANS sent out this tweet as Bill was addressing the audience:

Walton joined Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to deliver opening remarks for the conference.

According to a news release, AANS President Robert E. Harbaugh, M.D. believes neurosurgeons can learn a great deal from elite athletes.

“It is my belief that the type of focus, discipline, and practice that is needed to become an elite athlete is the same type of preparation that is needed to become an outstanding neurosurgeon,” said Harbaugh in the news release.
