The Better Way Back Community Expands to Support All Chronic Back, Leg, and Neck Pain

For more than a decade, The Better Way Back Community has supported patients undergoing the NuVasive® XLIF® surgical spine procedure. “We know the time is right to expand the program to address a greater number of conditions and treatments,” said President of The Better Way Back, Michael Hubbard.

We’re Social

Dr. Ivan Cheng, Stanford Department of Medicine, was drawn to his career because of the surgeon’s ability to make a significant difference in someone’s life on an immediate basis. It never ceases to amaze him when former patients come back postoperatively and share that he has changed their life in a positive manner.

He recommends patients to consult a spine surgeon in elective situations when they have exhausted conservative treatment options. There are urgent situations, but Dr. Cheng states that, “Many spinal pathologies, however, can resolve with the tincture of time and nonoperative treatment. When there are structural abnormalities that persist, however, such as spinal deformities, spondylolistheses, stenosis, and disc herniations that continue to cause pain and neurologic symptoms, the patient may benefit from surgical interventions.”

Featuring Jody, our next insider perspective. Jody tried numerous conservative treatments, but they all failed to provide long-term relief. Eventually, Jody met with Dr. Gregory Mundis, who suggested the minimally disruptive XLIF procedure.

Introducing, "Surgeon Spotlights". Meet Dr. Brett Braly MD, Osso Healthcare, who serves on the NuVasive Surgeon Education faculty.

Dr. Braly’s motivation to become a surgeon stems from his own spine fusion he needed after a high school wrestling match. As a beneficiary of his successful spine surgery, he felt it was his calling to give back.

Dr. Braly chooses NuVasive technology because of the customizable aspects it offers to fit each patient’s pathology. His continued inspiration comes from returning patients who express how excited they are to ride horses, play golf, exercise, or most importantly, have their lives back.
